What is a crusher hammer?

A crusher hammer is the replaceable wear part pinned to the rotor of a hammer mill or impact crusher. It absorbs the impact of breaking the feed material directly, so it is cast in manganese steel for toughness or high-chrome iron for abrasion resistance depending on the feed. Hammers are replaced in sets, and are often rotated on the rotor before full replacement to even out wear.
