When a blow bar wears out, waiting weeks for an OEM import is not always practical, and a generic aftermarket bar that does not match the rotor exactly can throw the whole machine out of balance. Here is how a worn blow bar becomes an exact-fit replacement.
What a Blow Bar Does and Why Exact Fit Matters
A blow bar is bolted to the rotor of an impact crusher and does the actual striking work, hitting feed material at high speed to shatter it against the breaker plates. Because it spins with the rotor at speed, a blow bar that does not match the original mounting geometry and weight distribution exactly can throw the rotor out of balance, which shows up as vibration, uneven wear, and premature bearing failure. Fit is not a cosmetic detail here, it is a mechanical and safety issue.

PF is a generic model naming convention used across many Chinese crusher manufacturers, and PF-series impactors have been widely imported into Zambia and neighbouring countries as part of complete crushing plants. That widespread use is also the problem: when a blow bar wears out, the original manufacturer may be slow to respond, minimum order quantities do not suit a single replacement, and freight alone can take longer than the crusher can sit idle. How We Reverse-Engineer a Blow Bar From a Worn Sample
We have done this for PF-series impactors running on Copperbelt quarrying sites, working from a worn bar with no OEM drawing available:
- Dimension the worn part or sample: we measure the worn bar directly, or work from a drawing if one exists.
- Pattern and mould: a pattern is made to the confirmed dimensions, including bolt holes and mounting geometry.
- Cast in manganese steel: Mn13 or Mn18 depending on the feed material, matching the wear-resistance discussion in our manganese steel vs high-chrome iron guide.
- Heat treat and machine: the casting is heat treated and machined to final tolerance so it bolts straight onto the rotor.
- Quality check against the original: weight and dimensions are checked against the worn sample before dispatch.
The result bolts on the same way the original did, with no shimming or drilling on site.
